Mr McNairn is representing the Montrose TKD School at the ITF Russia International Instructors Course (IIC) on September 4th - 6th. The IIC is being held in the region of Tambov and is being hosted by Mister Lazaros, President of ITF Russia. Also attending will be Master Bos and Grand Masters Marano and Trajtenberg. Mr McNairn will arrive in Moscow, then travel to Tambov which is approximately an 8 hour drive from the airport, which should be an adventure in itself. Any stories, photos and memories from Mr McNairn on his trip to follow on his return.

After training for so long and even having a public demonstration under their (white) belts, it was about time that the Juniors had a grading. The Junior grading syllabus was developed by Miss Brisco, Miss Mclaren and Ross Leport and was tailored to the youngsters skill levels and experience. Needless to say, all the students put in a great performance and all were successful in their promotion to 9th Kup. To mark the occasion special belts were awarded and presented by Chief Instructor Mr McNairn, hopefully the first of many!! (See Photos)

Congratulations to: Tim Brown; James Brown; Glen Fairlie; Scott Fairlie; Faith Mcleod

Master Thompson attended the Montrose KKB School and in conjunction with Mr McNairn and Miss Brisco carried out a grading exam for the KKB students. For several of the junior students, this was their first experience of a formal Martial Arts grading and as you can expect they were very nervous but enthusiastic. However, everyone put in maximum effort and all students who graded were successful. Our thanks go to Master Thompson for attending, and congratulations to all students who participated on their promotion. Well Done!!   (See photo in Gallery)

Montrose school of TaeKwon-Do attended the inaugrual TaeKwon-Do and Kickboxing Open championship in Livingston on Sunday 3rd May and enjoyed a hugely successful competition.

Montrose school entered a team of four, 3 senior (Stuart Hamilton, Ross Leport and Johnnie Leslie) and 1 junior (Kirstie McNairn). Between them the four competitors won 9 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals , a fantastic achievement for such a small squad.

The seniors team swept the board winning all Sparring and Patterns Individual and Team events, while Kirstie McNairn won Gold in 13-17yrs Patterns on her competition debut. Also Miss Colette Brisco had her first experience of umpiring at a TKD tournament.

“I am very proud of them all ” said Mr McNairn “especially my daughter of course, with it being her first ever competition, and it just goes to show that all the hard work and effort we put in in training, pays off when it counts”

“We now have to get back to training, and concentrate on the British championships coming up  on  Saturday 13 June ”.

I would like to congratulate the following persons on their promotion to 1st deg blackbelt.

Colette Brisco (Montrose)
Greg Spark (Rosemount)
Liam Bain ( Rosemount)

Montrose School would like to congratulate Mr James Davis on attaining his 3rd degree.

James was originally from Montrose school, where he attained the rank of 1st degree in 1999, before family and work commitments enduced him away from the area, to live in London with his wife Nicky and his two children Edie & Ethan.

James currently trains under Mr Russell Dennis, 6th degree, in Sutton Surrey. James will be starting his own TaeKwon-Do school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Master Sutherland VIII deg, Master Thompson VII deg and Master Wallace VII deg, for the excellent day and evening of technical instruction they gave at our school on Monday 23 March. As I will be taking part of the pattern event at the UKTF technical seminar this coming Saturday, 28 March, the technical instruction was invaluable for me, and I know it was of great benefit to everyone who attended, especially those who have degree gradings coming up this Sunday, 29 March.

It was also a great opportunity for the junior and coloured belt members of the various schools, not only to be taught by persons of such high rank, but also to see the senior grades and instructors, being put through THEIR paces by Master Sutherland. I don’t think many of the students have ever seen THEIR instructors under such pressure!

The evening was a great success, and the feedback I have received has all been positive.

The event was historical, as it was the first time Montrose school has ever hosted a Masters seminar which included THREE masters. We are hoping to better this in future by having FOUR masters at the next one.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Mark Hutton VI deg, senior instructor at East Kilbride academy, for attending the event, and also for giving some of the blackbelts in attendance the benefit of his vast knowledge of Taekwon-do, by taking them through their paces, prior to sitting their preliminary degree grade exams on 29 March, much appreciated.

I would also like to thank Mr Mark Boydell and Mr Gary Ingram (hope the arm gets better soon Mr Ingram), for bringing their students to the event, and adding to the already electric atmosphere.

I hope we can do it again very soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the 3 x students sitting their blackbelt exams on 29 March, 2 from Rosemount, and 1 from Montrose. Good luck, and remember… A BLACKBELT IS A WHITEBELT THAT NEVER GAVE UP.

Please check out the photo’s from the event in the “photo” section of our website.

As per the previous seminar I attended with Rannoch, the event was a big success, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rannoch for visiting us in Montrose.

Rannoch yet again managing to show us something new and exciting using kettlebells, aided by Ray Wilson from Aberdeen, and Jacqui Davies from Arbroath.

If you would like a memory refresher of the mobility exercises, shown to us by Ray, you can view them in a video clip here —> www.kettlebellsaberdeen.com

The seminar given by Rannoch was a K1 competence seminar, and we are hoping that Rannoch will return to our school in the near future, and give us a K2 level seminar. I will keep everyone posted as to when this will be.

Rannoch has also kindly agreed to offer assistance to anyone wishing to become certified in Kettlebells, so if you are interested in this, and I know many of you are, please let me know, and we can discuss the way forward.

Please check out the photo’s from the event in the “photo” section of our website.

Could everyone who attended the seminar, please go to the Kettlebells Scotland website, and leave feedback on the Review page?

Montrose School of Taekwon-do have pleasure in announcing a master class, which will be held by Master Sheena Sutherland 8th Degree & Master Michael Thompson 7th Degree to instruct their Monday night class.

This event is a first for Montrose School, as we have previously had Master Sutherland here, and also Master Thompson, but this will be the first time they have both been here at the same time. An event that shows that the Montrose school is gaining recognition throughout the country.

The Monday night class is an open class, to any of the instructors and students from any of the Taekwon-do schools in the area.

The junior class (7yrs-12yrs) will start at 6pm and the senior (13 yrs & above) class, will begin at 7pm and finish at 8.30pm. There will also be an opportunity for photographs and autographs from the masters.

There will be charge for attending this prestigious event, with the exception of the Montrose Sports Centre admission fee.

The class is also open to members from NON-Taekwon-do schools who wish to participate, and it is also open, free of charge to spectators.

All at David McNairn’s Blackbelt Academy look forward to seeing you all there.
