GMAC held the first West Lothian Open in Blackburn Community Hall on Saturday 2th. Despite the snow and horrendous weather there was a good turn out of competitors from many different organisations and parts of the country.
From Montrose TKD only Miss Colette McEwan and Mr Stuart Hamilton were competing on the day and managed to come back with some medals for their efforts.
Miss McEwan - Gold for Sparring & Power Test, and Silver for Special Technique. (35+)
Mr Hamilton - Bronze for sparring and Gold for Special Technique. (35+)
After almost 4 years training with Montrose TKD, Stuart Hamilton was successful in his grading examination and is now promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt. The grading examination took place in Master Wallace’s Abedeen Dojang on Nov 13th. The grading examination panel consisted of Master Wallace, Mr McNairn and Mr Boydell, with Miss Wallace assisting. This was the first Black Belt grading exam carried out by Northern TKD Academies (NTA), the first of many.
On Friday evening the candidates hoping to grade underwent a very difficult theory examination. The Saturday began with a Technical Seminar, then onto the grading proper. After a rigorous practical exam, the candidates were advised of their results on the day. To mark the occassion, a celebration meal was hosted by Master Wallace which was a welcome opportunity to relax and reflect on the day.
Montrose TKD extends its congratulations to all the successful candidates and wishes them well in their future paths within TKD.
Montrose TKD Junior students Glenn Fairley and James Brown competed in the recent Tots Competition hosted by Mr & Mrs Boydell in Inverbervie. The disciplines were sparring, power test, special technique and memory test, and as usual all the kids were eager to do well.
As well as their participation medals the boys managed a haul of 4 medals between them. Congratulations to both of them for the great effort. Everybody seemed to have a great day, and even the Instructors and Assistants had a laugh while carrying out the serious business of umpiring.
Glenn Fairley - Silver Memory, Silver Sparring and Bronze Power Test
James Brown - Gold Power Test
Due to unforeseen circumstances the meal has been postponed until a later date in the New Year. Hopefully this will allow more people to make it when things are a bit more relaxed after the Xmas panic!
Montrose TKD and KKB Instructors and Students (past & present) are invited to swap doboks for their glad rags and join us for a meal at the Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Montrose main street.
